The Indian prime minister’s forthcoming visit to Bangladesh is aimed at strengthening Indo-Bangladesh ties and improve bilateral relations, said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Saturday.
Talking about Manmohan Singh’s Dhaka visit on September 6 and 7, Mamata said, “We are going to Dhaka to strengthen ties between India and Bangladesh. We want to further improve relations between the two countries.”
Banerjee expressed her sentiments at a foundation stone-laying programme for an integrated check post (ICP) at Petrapole bordering Benapole, where she was companied by Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
About the new check post, she said the ICP would be important for the transport of passengers and goods as it would ensure smooth business and trade between the two countries and reduce time for customs formalities.
The West Bengal chief also hoped that the ICP will reduce the halting time of trucks.
