Women can’t be forced to wear veil

Posted on 15 April 2010

The High Court on Thursday directed the Ministry of Education to ensure that women working at different public and private educational institutions are not subjected to wear veil or forced to cover their head against their will. Wearing such attires should be a matter of personal choice.

It also asked the ministry to ensure that women are not subjected to harassment by their superiors.

The HC directed the education secretary to implement the guidelines given by the court in order to prevent sexual harassment against women across the country.

The bench of Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and Justice Syeda Afsar Jahan delivered the verdict upon a writ petition.

Advocate Salahuddin Dolon filed the writ petition seeking direction upon the government to prevent harassment against women, working at different public and private educational institutions.
