Rally against harassment of female students in DU

The Rover Scouts of Dhaka University staged a rally on Friday on the campus to protest against the harassment of girls. Several hundred scouts from all over the city joined the rally.Recent incidents of the harassment of female students of schools, colleges and universities have been flashed in the media and become a source of worry for the parents, said Momit Al Rashid, leader of
Dhaka University’s Rover Scouts.
AAMS Arefin Siddique, Dhaka University’s vice-chancellor, inaugurated the rally, which started in the Dhaka University Central Play Ground.
Arefin Siddique said that the teasing and harassment of girls has become a serious social problem which should be protested against by people from all walks of life. He urged the students to launch a social movement to stop eve teasing.
AKM Shahidul Haq, commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, expressed his support of the students’ initiative.
Harun-or-Rashid, Pro-vice-chancellor of Dhaka University, and KM Saiful Islam, Dhaka University’s proctor, were present in the rally, along with others.
The Rover Scouts started a mass signature collection programme from the Teachers Students Centre after the rally.
