Raise voice against militancy: Hasina

Posted on 10 April 2010

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday urged the ulema, mashaikhs and all other Islamic scholars and religious leaders to stand guard against the ‘evil’ force which is out to misguide people using the name of Islam, the religion of peace.

Hasina made the call when an 85-member delegation of Islamic scholars and leaders led by the Principal of Hathajari Madrasa Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi met her at Gonobhaban in the evening.

Hasina also requested the Islamic scholars to raise mass awareness against militancy and other types of terrorism, drug addiction, women repression, and child and women trafficking.

She said “Terrorists are terrorists, they don’t have any religion, any border.”

She reiterated that the present government will not enact any law which would go against the Holy Quran and Sunnah.

She said the government has already decided to include religious education in the texts for the national curriculum at the primary level.

About the planned education policy, she said it has been provided on the government’s website for public viewing and opinion.

She also invited suggestions from the Islamic scholars in order to design the most effective education policy for the country.

Hasina said religious education is necessary for building people’s moral strength, while general education can pave the way for vocationally, through jobs at home or abroad.

Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi, Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali, Hazrat Maolana Anwar Shah, and Hazrat Maulana Abul Jabbar also spoke on the occasion.
