2008-05-11__cl04Etcetera and JetSet Public Relations (JPR) organised a fashion show at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel on May 09, in order to launch ETC-Fashion Exclusives, a clothes and accessory store by Etcetera Bangladesh.

Etcetera’s latest venture aims to provide designer wear by local, sub continental and international designers, all under one roof. The fashion show featured the collections that will be available at the store, inaugurated at Gulshan Avenue on May 10.

The first segment of the event showcased creations by local designers Tootli Rahman, Rehana Ashraf, Shabana Ali, Symon and Tenzing, Shahrukh Amin, Samuel H. and Nasrin R. Karim. Samuel H. was the only designer with a collection for men. The models walked down the ramp clad in gorgeous works of jamdani, silk, muslin, brocade and tissue to popular numbers by Habib and Hyder Hussain. The local designers were then called up on stage to take their bow from the audience.

Nasrin R.Karim, President of Bangladesh Design Council and editor of the magazine Dia Asiana, requested Rasheda K Chowdhury, advisor for Culture, Social and Women’s Affairs, to hand over the Lifetime Achievement Award to Ritu Kumar for her immeasurable contribution to the field of design. Ritu Kumar has been working with this craft for the past 50 years. Special Awards were also presented to Shahnaz Plamondon and Leena Singh for their outstanding achievements in this medium.

The jewellery collection by Jagirdar was a magnificent treat for the invitees. Dressed in black, the willowy models graced the walkway flaunting exquisite pieces of diamond jewellery manufactured by Heera Bangladesh Limited. The background number of Diamonds are forever set the perfect note for the collection.

Collections of Indian designers Ritu Kumar, Anju Modi and Ashima- Leena were the main attractions of the event. The audience were enthralled as the models one by one presented lehengas, sarees, kameez sets and fusion wear done in intricate works such as zari, sequins and embroidery. Anju Modi’s creations were done in shades of cream, black, beige and purple that enhanced the ambiance of the show. Also, Ashima – Leena and Ritu Kumar’s collections highlighted the richness of our culture.

The fashion show was choreographed by Liza Varma and make-up was courtesy Sadia Moyeen, of La Belle. GMG Airlines, Bank Asia and AB Bank sponsored the event. ETC- Fashion Exclusives will provide international brands such as Bvlgari, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, DKNY and more for its local consumers. With its unique collection of products, the store is likely to get a huge market.
