A college student committed suicide in Cinema hall area of Chuadanga district town on Thursday night.The dead was identified as Raushan Jahan Mimmi, 18, daughter of Monjur Rahman of Pirpur in sadar upazila.

Mimmi was a candidate of the ongoing Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) examination.

According to police and family sources, Mimmi had been staying in a rented room in cinema hall area for the last two years for her study.

On Thursday evening, Mimmi told the house owner’s wife Sikha Khatun that she was ill.

At about 11:30pm, when Sikha came to inquire about Mimmi’s health condition, she found that the door was locked from inside. Sikha called Mimmi repeatedly but did not get any response.

The neighbours then broke open the door only to find Mimmi hanging from a ceiling fan of the room.

On receiving information, police rushed in and sent the body to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

An unnatural death case was filed with the Sadar Police Station.
