Bangladesh Mahila Parishad yesterday honoured some 55 women for their enormous contributions to different sectors.
Those who were honoured were given crests at a programme organised at BIAM Foundation auditorium in the city marking the 40th founding anniversary of BMP.
Awards were given in literature, environmental movement, music, band music, poetry recitation, painting, films, documentary, photography, sports, journalism, acting, dance, agriculture, indigenous women, women with disability, women entrepreneurship, fashion designing, mountaineering, drama in acting, writing and directing categories.
In her speech, BMP President Ayesha Khanam said women movement is not a movement against men rather it is the one that include both men and women to establish equal rights of women in society.
She urged the youths of the country to come forward to building a gender sensitive society and help women realise their rights.
Maleka Banu, general secretary of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, also spoke at the programme.
