
Take new projects on agri, women’s empowerment
Officials of cooperative bank have been urged to undertake fresh projects on food and social security, employment generation and women empowerment to help propel Bangladesh into a higher-growth pathway by 2021 as pledged by the Prime Minister.
State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak made the appeal while addressing the 32nd annual general meeting (AGM) of Bangladesh Cooperative Bank in the city Sunday, reports BSS.
Chairman of the bank Mohiuddin Ahmed presided over the AGM.
The state minister said the country’s agriculture system was being threatened due to the adverse impact of climate change and that was why food security must be ensured by activating agriculture associations besides providing them with modern agriculture technologies and necessary inputs.
He underscored the need for making the activities of the cooperative bank more people-welfare oriented for the greater interest of the economy.
Among others, lawmaker Nazrul Islam Babu, Secretary of the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division M Gulam Mostafa Talukdar and General Manager of the bank Dhirendra Chandra Dash addressed the AGM.
