Govt to provide vocational training to 10,000 women

The government has undertaken a programme to impart vocational training to 10,000 women in the country for their empowerment and ensuring their participation in development of national economy, reports UNB.

“Besides, the government’s initiative to encourage knowledge-based industrial programmes is reflected in the proposed budget for the current fiscal,” Industries Minister Dilip Barua said this during a meeting with outgoing Japanese Ambassador Masayuki Inoue at his office in the city Sunday.

During the meeting, they discussed matters relating to mutual interests.

Issues relating to increasing joint investment in country’s industrial sector, setting up of agro-based industries, development of human resources, women empowerment, development of SME sector and flourishment of ICT sector also came up for discussion in the meeting.

The minister suggested that the Japanese entrepreneurs could come forward to invest in hi-tech industrial sector particularly in semi conductors, fibre optics and chips production.

The Japanese envoy advised the minister to lay emphasis on conducting research in industrial sector and strengthening development programmes to augment industrial activities in the country.

Identifying the SME sector as the foundation of Japan’s economic prosperity, Inoue expressed his optimism that Bangladesh could turn into a middle-income country through flourishing labour intensive small and medium scale industries.

He also assured the minister of providing Japanese assistance to the socio-economic development of Bangladesh.
