Bangladesh Ansar & VDP team made a good start in the Women’s Club Cup Cricket Tournament upsetting Dhaka Mohammedan SC by 17 runs in the group B opener at the Mirpur City Club ground in Dhaka Sunday, reports UNB. Winning the toss, Ansar & VDP batted first to score 159 runs for 9 wickets in stipulated 35 overs. After a shaky start that saw opener Ayesha Akhter return to the pavilion for duck with team total at 3 for 1 in 2.2 overs, another opener Shahnaj Akhter pairing with one down Panna Ghosh contributed 67 runs in the 2nd wicket stand to carry the team total to a respectable position.
Shahnaj Akhter scored patient 26 runs off 82 balls with a boundary while one down Panna Ghosh made 39 off 45 balls with five fours.
Besides, middle order Shamima Akhter (22), Mina Khatun (15), Soheli Akhter (13) and Tithi Rani Sarker (11) were the other notable scorers for Ansar & VDP team while another 17 runs came from extras.
