Challenged women want representation in governance

Posted on 10 March 2009

The physically challenged women have demanded their representation at all tiers of governance from the union parishad to the national parliament.

They made the demands in separate programmes including a press conference and human chain formation organised here Saturday and Sunday to press their demands of ensuring one reserved seat for them in the parliament from every Division.

They also urged the government to ensure their proper representation at Union and Upazila Parishads, inclusion of one physically challenged woman in every development committee at the upazila parishads and giving special priority to their dignity and rights.

The physically handicapped women also demanded amendments to the concerned laws to eradicate discriminations to the women, shifting trials of the cases in connections with violence against the women to the speedy trial courts and interest-free loans for achieving self- reliance by them.
