Touring Pakistan set their final with Sri Lanka when they earned an emphatic nine-wicket win over Bangladesh in the last league match of the Grameenphone Women’s Tri-Nation Cricket Series at Shahid Flight Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Stadium in Khulna Saturday.
The final will be held on February 17 at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium at Mirpur.
On Friday, Bangladesh aroused some hope of playing the final beating Sri Lanka by six wickets, but their hope was shattered by the defeat in a dismal performance of the batters.
Earlier, in the tournament’s opening match, Pakistan also registered a seven-wicket win over Bangladesh.
Opting to bat first, the hosts faced serious batting jolt in the beginning and finally were able to score 94 runs for all in 34.4 overs in the face of devastating bowling attacks by Pakistan.
Only two Bangladeshi batter- opener Ayesha Akhter (21) and Salma Khatun (18) reached the double digits.
Naila Nazir caused the major damage for Bangladesh grabbing three wickets for 23 runs while Sana Mir captured two wickets for 12 runs.
In reply, Pakistan reached the target making 96 runs in 20.1 overs for the loss of one wicket.
After the departure of opener Qanita Jalil (24), another opener Bismah Maroof’s unbeaten 41 and one down Nain Abidi’s unbeaten 19 runs guided Pakistan to victory. Salma Khatun took one wicket for 25 runs.
Bismah Maroof of Pakistan was adjudged player of the match.
