She made this remark when the Ambassador of Netherlands in Bangladesh Berendina Maria paid a courtesy call on Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Ambassador handed over a formal letter of greetings of the Netherlands’s Prime Minster to Sheikh Hasina, on her assuming as the new PM of Bangladesh after a landslide victory in the December 29 general election.
The PM also thanked her Dutch counterpart through the envoy.
Talking to journalists after the meeting, PM’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said both Sheikh Hasina and Maria thoroughly discussed the necessity of empowering women and ensuring their rights.
During the meeting strengthening of Bangladesh’s Water Development Board also came up for discussion, Azad said.
In this respect, the PM mentioned her party’s election manifesto in which emphasis was given for empowering women as well as giving them nomination to different fields including contesting in parliament election.
Sheikh Hasina said her government will restart ‘One House – One Farm’ project undertaken during the tenure of her 1996-2001 rule for empowering the rural people of the country.
The Prime Minister categorically said any problems can be resolved if we can build trust and confidence among the people. Her government will take steps uniting all for resolving any problem in future.
Berendina Maria recalled the water related Technical Cooperation Agreement signed between the Netherlands and Bangladesh in 1973 by the Father of the Nation Bnagabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. According to the agreement, she said, the Netherlands will provide technical assistance to Bangladesh.
Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office Kazi M Aminul Islam and Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad were present.
