The Asian University for Women (AUW) is an emerging institution with an ambitious mission. Located in Chittagong, Bangladesh, AUW is the first of its kind: a regional institution of the highest quality, dedicated to the intellectual development of women. The University is international in its vision but rooted in the aspirations of people across Asia. AUW offers an educational paradigm that combines a liberal arts education with graduate and professional training.
AUW will educate promising young women from diverse cultural, religious, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds from across South and Southeast Asia and the Middle East, with an emphasis on the inclusion of women from poor, rural, and refugee populations. AUW students will graduate skilled and innovative professionals, service-oriented leaders and promoters of tolerance and understanding throughout the world. With a student body of approximately 3,000 women at full capacity, and a target student/faculty ratio of 13:1, AUW is a relatively small but diverse institution with the potential for enormous impact.
AUW offers a world-class education. The most appropriate skills for leadership development are realized through an education in the liberal arts and sciences, which promotes critical thinking and problem solving, rather than rote learning. The curriculum’s focus on critical thinking, active knowledge acquisition and entrepreneurship is based on the aim of providing a comprehensive education, which combines the benefits of a strong foundation in higher education and a keen awareness of regional issues and problems.
